Thanks for writing this Sam, it is so important. I'm in the middle of reading Ethics, and the points you make here are clearly dealt with in different chapters. It may not be the easiest reading, but if you slow down, Bonhoeffer's position is clear and insistent.
Right. I don’t want to be unfair to Metaxas — good theological work is difficult, and while Bonhoeffer has a clarity that is remarkable, it does take our effort to hear him well. Bonhoeffer might be the most misunderstood theologian. Metaxas gets that right, actually! But he gets it so wrong all the same
